Career
Began practice at Boston, 1896. Member Massachusetts House of Representatives, 1915-1918. Attorney general of Massachusetts, 1920-1922.
During term instituted an investigation of the fish trust, which resulted in conviction and imprisonment of the promoters.
Broke up powerful blackmail ring in Massachusetts by instituting proceedings which resulted in removal and disbarment of District Attorneys Tufts and Pelletier in Middlesex and Suffolk Counties. Exposed silver stock swindle and secured conviction of Thomas West. Lawson and ten other operators for illegal advertising.
Investigated and exposed Charles Ponzi’s financial operations and prosecuted him for larceny. Acted in advisory capacity as attorney general in trial of Sacco and Vanzetti.
