After the Railway was transferred to the Government of Tasmania promoted to the position of Stationmaster, Launceston, and subsequently to office of Accountant of Tasmanian Government Railways transferred to position of chief clerk of the Government Audit Office, Hobart,Tasmania, 18S2. Later deputy auditor. Auditor general for Tasmania, 1895.
Member of council of the Royal Geographical Society of Australia, Victorian Branch. Many years President of the Board of Benevolence, Grand Lodge of Freemasons, Tasmania. Also was First Principal of Royal Arch Chapter.
Past senior grand warden of Grand Lodge of Victoria. First honorary member of the Australasian Corporation of Public Accountants. Imperial Service Order, Auditor General for the Commonwealth of Australia since 1901.
