Mason, John William was born on January 13, 1842 in Monongalia Company, Virginia (now West Virginia). Son of John McLure and Susan B. (Hutchinson) Mason.

Educated Monongalia Academy, Morgantown, West Virginia.

Career

Served as sergeant in Battery F, 1st Regiment, West Virginia Light Artillery Vols., 1861-1864. Began practice at Grafton, West Virginia, 1868. United States commissioner internal revenue, Washington, District of Columbia, 1889-1893.

Judge Circuit Court, 2d and 14th Circuits, West Virginia, 1900-1913. Chairman Virginia Debt Commission, 1914-1916. Judge Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, November 1915-December 31, 1916.

Served as sergeant in Battery F, 1st Regiment, West Virginia Light Artillery Vols., 1861-1864.
