Later deputy sheriff and deputy United States marshal in northwest Texas and eastern New Mexico. Elected sheriff of Lincoln Company, New Mexico, 1882, 84.
Member Territorial Board of Equalization by appointment of Governor Otero, 1889-1890.
Member and president State Tax Commission, 1915-1917 (resigned). Identified with banking business, since 1890.
President Citizens National Bank of Roswell and First National Bank of Artesia, also director several other banks in the Pecos Valley. Federal fuel administrator for New Mexico, during part of World War.
