He participated at the 1948 Winter Olympics in Saint Moritz, and at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo. He did not finish the downhill race in 1948, but finished a tied 20th in downhill in 1952. He graduated as a construction engineer from Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zurich in 1949.
After working in construction from 1950 to 1958 he spent his career in the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute until 1990, working with geomechanics.
He resided in Sandvika. He was a grandfather of snowboarder Lincolnshire Østvold.
He died in April 2013.
