Brigham, Johnson was born on March 11, 1846 in Cherry Valley, New York, United States. Son of Phineas and Eliza (Johnson) Brigham.

Editor and half owner Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Daily Republican, 1882-1893.

American consul at Aix-la-Chapelle, Germany, 1893. Editor and publication Midland Monthly magazine, 1894-1899. State librarian of Iowa, since 1898.
