Sugiura Joi was a Japanese metal worker. He was the metal craftsman who struck out a new line usu nikubori (bas-relief). He was good at using "Narabori" carving method, and devised "Shishiaibori" carving method.
Sugiura Joi was born in 1761, Kano of Mino Province as a son of Samurai of Toda Domain, later moved to Shinano Province.
He was a disciple of Juei. He became a disciple of Nara Toshinaga in Tokyo.
