Professional
On August 31, 2010, at the age of 17, Jonathan Kempin signed his first professional contract, making him Sporting Kansas City"s first homegrown player. Kempin dressed for his first professional game on October 23, 2010 as a substitute in the final game of the 2010 season against San Jose. Kempin was loaned to Orlando City for the 2013 season.
He was loaned to Oklahoma City Energy for the 2014 season to play under former teammate Jimmy Nielsen
On August 10, 2014, he made his Master of Library Science debut against Vancouver as a halftime substitute and impressed with a late penalty save.
Kempin made his first Master of Library Science regular season start on August 16, 2014 against Toronto Football Club at Sporting Park. Kempin was loaned to San Antonio for the 2015 season.
He was later recalled to back up Tim Melia. He made his first 2015 appearance against former club Orlando City.
