Of Irish Heritage, Jon Smith was brought up in Teesside, where he remained until he was eighteen. After graduating in 1997, Smith spent a year in South of Korea, teaching English as a foreign language. Returning to the United Kingdom in 1998, Smith worked for a number of Internet companies, including Amazon.co.uk and Kitbag.com, before launching his own online toy business called Toytopia in 2002.
lieutenant was whilst working in the shop that Smith wrote first drafts of Toytopia and The Blokes Guide To Pregnancy, which were both published in 2004.
Smarter Business Start Ups and Web Sites That Work followed shortly after. Jon married long-term partner KiKi Gee in 2003.
They have two children. Ali and Emi. He currently lives in London.
Smith was awarded a Masters Degree in Screenwriting in June 2012.
