Mitchell, Jonathan was born in 1624 in Halifax, England. Son of Matthew and Susan (Butterfield) Mitchell.

Education

Graduated from Harvard, 1647.

Career

Came to American, 1635. Ordained to ministry Congregational Church, 1650. Pastor church, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1650-1668.

Became life fellow of Harvard, 1650. Leading advocate of Halfway Covenant adopted by Synod of 1662 (most outstanding achievement). Published sermons A Discourse of the Glory to Which God Hath Called Believers by Jesus Christ, 1677.

Other writings include: Letter of Counsel, 1664, An Election Sermon, 1667, A Letter Concerning the Subjects of Baptism, 1675.
