Angell graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 and immediately joined the Tar Heel Sports Network.

In 2003, he became the voice of Tar Heel baseball, and called the Tar Heels" appearances in the finals of the 2006 and 2007 College World Series. Durham announced his retirement after the 2010-2011 basketball season, and Angell was named his successor on June 27, 2011. Additionally, Angell is assistant director of new media at University of North Carolina, and has produced many features that have been shown on the video boards at Kenan Stadium and the Dean Smith Center.
