AMADO, Jorge was born on August 10, 1912 in Itabuna, Bahia. Son of Joao Amado de Faria and Eulalia Leal Amado. Jorge Leal Amado de Faria was a famous Brazilian writer, public and political figure. He was a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (1961, the 23rd chair of 40).
Amado was born in the fazenda Auricídia in the state of Bahia in 1912. A year later his family was forced to move to the city of Ilheus because of the smallpox epidemic. There Amadou spent all his childhood and the impressions of this period of life affected his future creative work. He he was a student of the University of Rio de Janeiro and studied at the faculty of Law, where he fell in with the Communist movement for the first time.
