Jorgen Ekstrom
Jörgen Ekström was born on September 19, 1955, in Västerås, Sweden. Västerås is a city on the shore of Lake Mälaren in Västmanland County, in the Mälardalen region of central Sweden.
Ekström studied law at the University of Uppsala, where he obtained a juris kandidat degree, which is rendered in English as a Bachelor of Laws. Founded in 1477, Uppsala is Sweden's oldest university and has long been one of the country's principal centers of higher education. The juris kandidat is the basic Swedish law degree and the standard academic qualification for entry into legal practice.
Ekström was admitted to the Swedish bar in 1986, which qualified him to practice as an advokat in Sweden. He later worked as a partner at Gedda & Ekdahl Advokatbyrå, a Swedish business law firm based in Stockholm. In a 1996 ranking of major Swedish law firms, Gedda & Ekdahl was among the firms of that size, and its partners' cooperation with the British firm Bird & Bird led most of its partners to join Bird & Bird in 2000.
Bird & Bird was founded in London in 1838 and established its Stockholm office in 2001 through a merger with Lagerlöf & Leman. The Gedda & Ekdahl partnership therefore marked an important transition in Stockholm's business law sector at the turn of the twenty-first century. Ekström's own position in that transition is not documented beyond his partnership.
Ekström was admitted to the Swedish bar in 1986 and was a member of the Swedish Bar Association, the national professional organization of Sweden's advokater. Advokater are licensed lawyers who represent clients in Swedish courts. He left the association at the end of 2022.
