Jorgen Sonne was born on October 15, 1925 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 1951 Jorgen Sonne received a Master of Arts.
Sonne began his literary career in the early 1950s. He produced his first book, Korte digte, in 1950, and in the ensuing few years he followed that volume—a poetry collection—with further verse works, including Delfiner I skoven, I en levende tid, and Italiensk suite. In his earliest collections, Sonne revealed a preoccupation with religious themes, but in Italiensk suite he displayed an interest in subjects such as ruin and decay.
Sonne was believed to had reached an artistic breakthrough in his 1963 collection, Krese, in which he emphasized a general understanding of both living beings and inanimate objects. His interest in reality was further evident in Thainoter, a 1974 publication. In ensuing volumes—including the 1976 collection, Huset—Sonne demonstrated his affinity for ambiguous imagery and the merging of both the rational and the fantastic.
Although he was probably best known for his various poetry collections, Sonne had also produced such works as Natten i Rom, a novel, and Bid turist, a quirky travel volume relating to a photographer’s experiences in a Third World country.
Jorgen Sonne was a member of the Danish Authors Association.
Jorgen Sonne had two children.
