Salgado is promoted by current WBC Champion, Mexican Saúl Álvarez" company Canelo Promotions. In September 2010, José knocked out the veteran Miguel Tique to win the vacant WBC Youth World Super Bantamweight title. On March 26, 2011 Salgado got a third round knockout over title contender Everardo Morales to win the vacant NABF Super Flyweight Championship. Then José got a first round knockout over challenger Carlos Ariel Farías to win the vacant North American Boxing Association Super Flyweight Championship.
