Career
He is affiliated with the Institute of Archaeology at University College London in Bloomsbury, central London, where he now works as Reader in Latin American Archaeology. Born in Barcelona and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Oliver went on to study anthropology in the United States, gaining his Bachelor in the subject from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1977. He subsequently went on to study at the University of Illinois in Urabana-Champaign, gaining his Master of Arts in 1981 and then his Doctor of Philosophy in 1989.

The Web Spun by Taino Rulers between Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, was published in 2009. Currently, Doctor Oliver directs a research project in the Dominican Republic entitled The Macorix Archaeological Project.
