Jose Benito began his career as a general business accounting in a shipping agency in Corinto, Nicaragua and was promoted as an assistant of the general manager. He moved to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, where he began to work as an accountant but also began a small business that grew as a general store and then to one of the most important stores of the city and became a department or multiple stores called ALMACEN DE NOVEDADES, that was destroyed during the 1931 Earthquake of Managua. He built his business again from the ashes because the insurance not covered earthquake and his claim were denied. Before this event, he was part of the business community in Nicaragua and cofounded the Red Cross of Nicaragua and the Chamber of Commerce.
