After graduation, practiced as lawyer in Puerto Rico, 2 years. Admitted to bar Supreme Court of the United States Court, 1917. Entered Spanish judiciary as assisting prosecuting attorney, 1877.

Later sent specially to Cebú to investigate charges against General Junquera, then governor of that island, by order of Supreme Court of the Spain.

Appointed by Major-General Brooke presiding judge Supreme Court of the Prize ring (The), October 1898, and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Prize ring (The) by General George West. Davis, August 1899.
Upon establishment of civil government in Puerto Rico., became Associate Justice of the Supreme Court until appointed chief justice, April 9, 1909. Voluntarily resigned December 7, 1921, after 10 years’ service.
