Career
The Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Josef Blümel was killed on 19 September 1944 near Riga, Latvia. Josef Blümel was posthumously awarded the Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross on 28 January 1945.
