Career
Skružný was taught stone-cutter but became a journalist for Humoristické listy, a political satire magazine, where he contributed with short stories and cartoon. In the First Republic of Czechoslovakia Skružný was a popular author of dramatic and satiric novels, many of which were filmed. He named his villa in Zbraslav (Prague) "Venoušek a Stázička", after one of his most successful works.
Elmar Klos, nephew of Skružný, cooperated on several movie scripts.
Josef Skružný was a fierce anticommunist and supported and cooperated with Germans during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia.
