Josei Konishi was a dealer in herbs. A close friend of Naoie Ukita, Josei Konishi did much to influence his friend to bring about a peace treaty with the Moris and Hideyoshi Toyotomi at Harima (Hyogo Prefecture), to the great relief of the latter (1577). According to the Japan Christian History, he took to himself the name of Don Joachim.
