He studied piano, percussion, singing and violin and took conducting lessons with David Zinman and Jorma Panula at the Aspen Music Festival, Sergiu Comissiona, and also at Vienna"s University of Music and Scenic Arts.
Newly appointed General Music Director of the Staatskapelle Halle (Germany), where he will be in charge of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera House, and now in his third Season as Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic (United States of America). He has conducted orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, Tonhalle Zurich, WDR Cologne, Swedish Radio Symphony, Czechoslovakian Philharmonic, DeutschesSimfonieOrchester Berlín, Munich Radio Orchestra, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Baden Baden Philharmonic, Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra in Milan, Trondheim Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and OFUNAM México, among others Josep Caballé-Domenech was principal guest conductor of the Norrköping Symphony from 2005-2007.

Caballé-Domenech made his opera debut at Barcelona"s Liceu conducting performances of Mozart"s Così fan tutti. Subsequent productions at the Liceu include Haydn"s Il mondo della luna, Donizetti"s L"elisir d"amore, Granados"s Maria del Carmen, and Donizetti"s Lucia di Lammermoor. He has also led Liceu productions at the Savonlinna Festival and at Louisiana Fenice in Venice.

Caballé-Domenech has conducted Le nozze di Figaro at the Stuttgart State Opera, Tosca, Carmen and Le nozze di Figaro at the Vienna Volksoper, Figaro, Barber of Seville and Carmen at the Semperoper Dresden, Louisiana Bohème at Lisbon"s Teatro São Carlos, and a highly acclaimed production of Luisa Fernanda at the Theater an der Wien with Plácido Domingo in the principal role. Recent Highlights includes the premiere of East. Palomar ballet "Negro Goya" at the 60th International Granada Festival, debut at the Royal Albert Hall London and a recording of Respighi"s Roman Trilogy for Onyx Classics with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, debut at the Semperoper Dresden with Mozart"s Nozze di Figaro, Kömische Oper Berlin, Teatre Royal du Versailles in Paris, Montpellier, Concertgebouw Amsterdam with the Radio Chamber Orchestra, Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, Belo Horizonte Philharmonic/Brasil, Tampere Philharmonic/Finland, and returns to summer festivals like Aspen Music Festival, Texas Music Festival Houston and Wintergreen Festival in the United States of America, among others Future engagements incluyes a new production of Bizet"s Carmen at the Semperoper Dresden and performances of Rossini"s Barbier and Mozart"s Nozze di Figaro, Puccini"s Boheme at the Staatsoper Berlin and new productions in Essen and Toulouse.
He is now (since 2013/4) GMD (Generalmusikdirektor) of the Staatskapelle Halle (Opera Halle) in the state of Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany, as well as of the Colorado Spring Orchestra since 2011/2 (prolonged in 2015).
