They had three children: Dorothy (born 1900), Grace (born 1906) and John (born 1916) all deceased. Burley is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery in Perth, Western Australia. Joseph was involved in the development and promotion of the Australian rules football game in Western Australia.
Among many philanthropic activities, he sponsored a tour of Tasmania by the East Perth Football Club in the 1930s.
His collection of early football photographs are housed in the J South Battye Library in Western Australia.
