Agnes Keefe in American Legion Auxiliary Uniform
Keefe's contributions extended beyond his professional duties. He actively participated in organizations, serving as the president and vice-president of the Massachusetts Police Association and the State, County, and Municipal Employees Association within the Waltham Police Association. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham and dedicated years as an usher at Saint Mary’s Church in Waltham
Joseph P. Keefe's commitment to education propelled him through significant milestones. He graduated from Waltham High School in 1945. He graduated from Massachusetts Bay Community College and Northeastern University in Boston. His educational pursuits laid a robust foundation for his impactful career in law enforcement.
Joseph's commitment to public service was exemplified through his thirty-year career with the Waltham Police Department. Starting as a reserve officer in 1951, he rapidly ascended the ranks, achieving the positions of patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant in 1967, and captain in December 1979. Notably, he served as the head of the detective division until his retirement in September 1981. Even post-retirement, Joseph continued his dedication to security, overseeing Northgate Gardens Condominiums in Waltham for two more decades as Chief of Security.
His family was at the heart of Joseph P. Keefe's life. His enduring 60-year marriage to Barbara A. (Delorey) Keefe was a testament to his commitment and love. Together, they raised two children, Judith A. Keefe of North Chelmsford, MA, and Joseph P. Keefe, Jr., and his wife, Susan, of Waltham, MA.
