Maerz, Joseph was born on December 23, 1883 in Buffalo, New York, United States. Son of Aloys J. and Mary (Dory) Maerz.

Education

Educated Canisius College. Studied piano with Carlos de Serrano.

Career

Frequently appeared as child prodigy. Made 6 trans-continental tours, also toured in Canada and Mexico. Daily recitals at Jamestown Exposition, 1907.

Teacher of piano at New York Institute of Music, 3 years, Syracuse University, 6 years. Director of music, Wesleyan College, Macon, Georgia, since 1914. Repertoire includes old and modern classics.

Composer: 2 works for large orchestra. Sonata for violin and piano. German lieder and English songs.
