Career
He represented Beauce in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1878 to 1881 as a Liberal and from 1892 to 1897 as a Conservative member. He was born in Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, Quebec, the son of Vital Poirier and Marie-des-Anges Thibodeau. Poirier studied at the college in Nicolet.
Poirier ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Commons in 1884 and 1887.
He also served as secretary-treasurer for Saint-Joseph municipality. In 1897, he resigned his seat to accept the position of sheriff for Beauce district.
Poirier died at Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce at the age of 77.
