Joseph C. ARMSTRONG, American State Legislator. Member of Masons; Blue Lodge; I ounders Art. Society of Detroit Museum of Art. Club, Detroit Republican (charter).


ARMSTRONG, Joseph C. was born on November 14, 1868 in Ireland. Son of James and Mary Jane (Johnston) Armstrong.


Detroit Public Schools. Commercial Business College.


Elected member. Detroit Board of Estimates from Eighth Ward, 1909-1913, Michigan State House of Representative, since 1924. Chairman, Insurance Committee, 1929. Sponsored Recodification of Infantry Laws of Michigan.

Member, Elections Committee, sponored Recodification of Election Laws of Michigan. Fathered and sponsored Capital Punishment Bill passed both Houses and vetoed by Governor of Michigan. Fathered and passed in House of Representative Bill to create hours for men of lower wages.

Bill died in Senate through efforts of Lobbyists. Chairman, Wayne Company Delegation of 21 members in House of Representative Served, Michigan National Guard, 1885-1897. Retired as Second Lieutenant.

Recalled into service with rank of Captain, Infantry, June. 1917; commander Major Infantry, commanding Second Battalion, 550th Regiment, Michigan State Troops, October, 1917. Honorary discharged, TLii*. h°nmem., Advisory Board, Michigan Housing Association for men of lower wages.
