Hazen, Joseph Chalmers was born on April 5, 1874 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Shadrock Burney and Mary Jane (Booth) Hazen.


Bachelor of Arts Bucknell U., Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, 1899, A.M., 1902, Doctor of Divinity, 1919;graduate Division School, University of Chicago, 1902, D.B., 1903. Doctor of Divinity, Colgate 1927.


Ordained Baptist ministry, 1903. Pastor successively Kankakee, Illinois, First Church, Janesville, Wisconsin, First Church, Peoria, Illinois, until 1923, North Orange Church, Orange, New Jersey, 1923-1936. Correspondent secretary Northern Baptist Convention, New York City, 1940-1951.

Member Executive Committee general council Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board. Member board of managers New Jersey Baptist State Convention, president, 1937-1941. Ex-president Ministers’ Association of Oranges.
