Career

Commissioned Second lieutenant 4th Cavalry, June 13, 1873. First lieutenant, March 20, 1879. Captain, March 2, 1885.

Lieutenant colonel assistant adjutant general vols., May 9, 1898-May 12, 1899. Colonel 45th United States Infantry Vols., August 17, 1899-June 3, 1901. Major 2d United States Cavalry, November 7, 1898.

Inspector general, February 28, 1901. Lieutenant colonel 12th Cavalry, June 26, 1901. Colonel 3d Cavalry, April 15, 1903.

Participated in campaigns against Kiowa, Comanche and Cheyenne Indians, 1874-1875. Powder River expedition against Sioux and Cheyennes, 1876-1877, against Utes, 1879-1881, against Apaches in Arizona, 1881, against Geronimo’s band, 1885-1886, against Santiago de Cuba, 1898, and against insurrectos in the Philippines, 1899-1901. Retired, August 10, 1911.
