Way, Joseph Howell was born on November 22, 1865 in Waco, Texas, United States. Son of Charles Burr and Martha Julia (Howell) Way.

Education

Of Puritan ancestry; 9th generation from Jehue Burr, original settler, Fairfield, Connecticut, 1632. 10th generation, from Henry Way, Dorchester, Massachusetts, 1630. Preliminary education under father.

Medical College of Virginia, 1884.

Doctor of Medicine Vanderbilt University, 1886. Licensed to practice, 1885, at age of 19, after passing examination in class of 53, before State Board of North Carolina, making highest grade of class.

Career

In practice at Waynesville, since 1886. Particular attention to tuberculosis. Local surgeon Southern Railway State medical examination Royal Arcanum for North Carolina Charter member and director First National Bank (Waynesville), Champion Bank (Canton, North Carolina), Bryson (North Carolina) City Bank.
