Chaplain United States Navy, 1839-1844. In charge of Hungar’s Parish, Northampton County, Virginia, 1842-1843, St. James-Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia, 1844. Rector St. Mark’s Church, Philadelphia, 1849-circa 1861.

Went to England to purchase Bibles for soldiers, 1863. Consecrated Episcopal bishop of Louisiana, 1866. Author: A Defense of Louisiana (political pamphlet), 1868.
