His junior year, Heintzeman enrolled as a PSEO student at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, Minnesota. He has owned a small-business since 1995 called Up Country Log that specializes in log building. He also served as the Chair of the Crow Wing County Republicans.

A member of the Republican Party of Minnesota, he represents District 10A, which includes portions of Crow Wing County in northern Minnesota. Heintzeman serves on the Thirty Lakes Water Shed Board and is a member of the Brainerd Chamber of Commerce.
