Fry, Joshua was born in 1700 in Crewkerne, England, circa. Son of Joseph Fry.

Educated Wadham College, Oxford (England) University, 1718.

Career

Came to Virginia, before 1720. Professor of mathematics and natural philosophy College William and Mary, 1731. 1st presiding justice Albemarle Cunty.

Justice Court Chancery. County surveyor; member House of Burgesses from Abemarle County until death. County Lieutenant, 1745.

Mapmaker (with Peter Jefferson) Map of the Inhabited Parts of Virginia. Surveyor (with P. Jefferson) ran part of Virginia-Carolina boundary, 1749. Commissioner to the Six Nations, 1752, aided in drawing up Treaty of Logstown.

Colonel, commander-in-chief of a regiment Virginia Militia, started for Ohio in expedition against French, 1754, died enroute, succeeded by George Washington.

Member House of Burgesses from Abemarle County until death.
