Entered at Lincoln’s Inn, and was called to the Bar, and practised on the Oxford circuit. Then joined Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital, and took his medical diploma, and later founded the Humanitarian Hospital of Saint Francis, South-east, of which he was for some years chairman and senior physician. In 1903 he became warden of and senior physician to the Lady Margaret Fruitarian Hospital, Bromley.
He was awarded the degree of Doctor in Civil Law (Doctor of Civil Law) at Oxford for his thesis on Capital Punishment.
While at Oxford he adopted the Fruitarian diet, and has since then strenuously advocated its adoption by the higher classes for aesthetic and humane reasons. Founded the Society for the Abolition of Capital Punishment, 1901.
