He played hurling with his local club Glen Rovers and with the Cork inter-county team in the 1940s and 1950s. Club
Hartnett played his club hurling with Glen Rovers, one of the most famous clubs in the country. Inter-county
Hartnett first came to prominence with the Cork senior hurlers in the late 1940s.
Unfortunately, he played no part in Cork’s later All-Ireland victory over Dublin.
This was converted into a first All-Ireland medal following Cork’s defeat of Galway in one of the dirtiest All-Ireland finals ever. lieutenant was Hartnett’s second All-Ireland medal.
Hartnett’s side, however, were later defeated by Wexford in the All-Ireland final.
