He contributed and signed seven extensive notes for the biography detailing the usefulness of these books and many emotional memories they evoked of teaching. At an early age, Michener prepared for his life adventures, thus details of the remarkable high school and college education that prepared him for teaching are included, as are many quotes from the authors' interviews and correspondance with him. (With youthful enthusiasm, eighteen-year-old Friend Pitts ...)
With youthful enthusiasm, eighteen-year-old Friend Pitts Williams absorbed the world's fair of 1893 and candidly recorded his illuminating and sometimes romantic observations in this diary. As did millions of others, he traveled by train to Chicago and immersed himself in the captivating sights and events of the greatest world's fair—the watershed and record-breaking World's Columbian Expositon, popularly called "The White City." His insightful record is illustrated with 270 photographs that the authors have carefully selected from their extensive Columbian Exposition reference library which exactly match the scenes the young man describes.
