Fiskin received her MA from University of California at Los Angeles in 1969, having also done graduate work at University of California, Berkeley (1966-67). She earned her BA from Pomona College in 1966 and studied at the University of Paris' Institute of Art and Archaeology in 1964-65.
Fiskin became associate dean of art and design at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, in 1979, and since 1977 has been an instructor in photography at the college. In 1973 she was codirector of Womanspace Gallery in Los Angeles and from 1969 to 1970 edited the Notebooks of architect Richard Neutra. She uses small- and medium-format black-and-white images.
