Jujiro Harada

Harada became chief engineer of the Kasuga, steamship belonging to the Kagoshima Clan. He fought on the side of Takamori Saigo, a Kagoshima statesman, in the civil war of 1877. Later started a shipping business in Osaka. In 1093 he started a shipbuilding company, in 1909 established the Harada Shokd Co., which combined his shipping and shipbuilding enterprises. The shipping part of the firm became independent and named Harada Steamship Co. in 1916. He was a leader in the shipping circles in the Kansai.
