Jules Older was born on May 1, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. He is a son of Morris and Ruth Older.
Jules Older studied at the University of Vermont where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English in 1962. He also attended New York University and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in clinical psychology in 1971.
Jules Older started his career as a nurse's aide in a locked psychiatric ward. He worked with children and this experience inspired him to pursue a career in clinical psychology. He started to work as a clinical psychologist and later became a medical educator. He was a regular commentator on Vermont Public Radio and products column for Vermont Business Magazine. In 1998, Older became editor-in-chief at Ski Press World. He left this post in 2009. He was the humor columnist for TWA. Since 2010 he has been Radio New Zealand’s “It Guy in San Francisco” commentator.
Jules Older published his first book The Pakeha Papers in 1978. He wrote such books as Hank Prank and Hot Henrietta Oliver's Barnyard Blues, Anita!: The Woman Behind the Body Shop, Telling Time: How to Tell Time on Digital and Analog Clocks. Together with his wife, he published several books and also wrote the screenplay for the award-winning documentary film Tales from the Mountain: Mount Snow’s First Forty Years. Older is a contributor of articles to newspapers and magazines, including the London Times, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Times, The Guardian, GEO, Hemispheres, New Choices, SKIING, Powder, and Cross Country Skier. He also worked as a teacher of writing together with his wife.
