This annual, internationally orientated book provides reviews of topics which are either controversial or undergoing significant development. Whilst the emphasis of the book is on the clinical aspects of the discussion, fundamental research which indicates potential change in clinical practice of the future, is also addressed. In particular, where there is controversy, the current options for managing a specific clinical problem are discussed. The publication is managed by four intensivists representing Intensive Care Medicine in Australasia, Europe and North America. For each publication these Editors collectively agree a list of topics whilst the commissioning and editing of each book is assumed by a different member of this group on a four year cycle.
