Pianoforte-pupil of Leuchtenberg and Zech; studied theory with S. Dehn.
First a concert - pianist and teacher; in 1865 - president of Berlin “Tonkünst-lerverein”; in 1872 - “Professor”; in - 1879, president of the“ Musiklehrerverein,” being one of its founders. From 1874 he was an editor of “Harmonie”.
Doctor of philosophy at Kiel University. He was a pianoforte-pupil of Leuchtenberg and Zech. He studied theory with S. Dehn. First a concert - pianist and teacher. In 1865 he became president of Berlin “Tonkünst-lerverein”; in 1872 - “Professor”; in 1879 - president of the“ Musiklehrerverein,” being one of its founders. From 1874 he was editor of “Harmonie”; has published ‘‘12 Vorlesungen fiber Musikgeschichte,” and“ Licht- und Wendepunkte in der Entwickelung der Musik ” (1880); contributor to several musical papers.
Compositions: Requiem for 6- and 8-part choruses a cappella; a liturgy; overtures and march for orchestra; songs; pianoforte-pieces.
Julius has published ‘‘12 Vorlesungen fiber Musikgeschichte,” and“ Licht- und Wendepunkte in der Entwickelung der Musik ” (1880); contributor to several musical papers.
