Background
Jun-ichiro Suenaga was born in 1867 in Fukuoka, Japan. His father, Shigeyo, was a Shinto ritualist at the Sumiyoshi Shrine and well known as a scholar of Japanese classics.

Education
Jun-ichiro went to Tokyo at the age of 16, studied at the Shokojuku School of Jugo Sugiura.
Career
Jun-ichiro Suenaga became well known as a staff writer of the Nihon Shimbun and Niroku Shimpo (newspapers). Participated in the Korean Government's monetary reform (1888). His reports from the front during the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), which appeared in the Nihon Shimbun, were well received.
Toward the end of the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), he started the Ryoto Shimbun in Dairen, which was the first Japanese-language paper in Manchuria.
Membership
He was a leading member of such organizations for promotion of Asian solidarity as the Toho Kyokai, Toa Dobunkai, Tairo Doshikai and Kokuryukai.
Connections
After the war, he became an intimate friend of Sun Yatsen, Hwang Hsing and other Chinese leaders.
