A retainer of Naganori Asano, he was keeper of the lord's residence in Kyoto, with a fief of 150 koku. After Naganori was put to death for his offense in Edo Castle, he went to Edo and lived there disguised as a physician until the famous vendetta. His adopted son, Hidetomi (Koemon), also took part in the revenge.
