Achievements include early investigations (1977-1981) on number and activity of bacteria in groundwater; research on importance of bacteria in the food web of streams; bacteria are not only important as decomposers but also as a food resource for higher trophic levels; measurement of bacterial biomass and production in unpolluted streams.
