Jushin Sekiguchi was a founder of the Sekiguchi school of judo.
Background
Jushin Sekiguchi was born in Mikawa Province (Aichi Prefecture). His grandfather was the husband of a sister of Yoshimoto Imagawa.
Education
He studied judo of the various schools and evolved his own system which he called yaivara (judo) of the Shinshin school.
Career
He served Tadataka Matsudaira and Masakatsu Honda before he became a retainer of Yorinobu Tokugawa, Lord of Wakayama (1639).
Personality
A man of inordinate physical strength, he mastered all martial arts, including archery, horsemanship, swordsmanship and spearmanship.
