Captain 90th Light Infantry, 1870-1876. Exchanged to Royal Scots Greys. Lieutenant-Colonel commanding, 1892.
Visited Russia with a deputation on the appointment of His (or Her) Imperial Majesty Nicolas World War II as Colonel-in-Chief, Royal Scots Greys, 1895.
And attended his coronation May 1896. Decorated with order of Saint Aime on both occasions.
Retired on retired pay July 1896. Contested Grantham, 1885.
