Miller was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round (483rd overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.
The Rangers added Miller to their 40-man roster after the 2011 season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
Miller was activated from the Rangers disabled list on June 12, 2013 and optioned to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. He was released by the Rangers on September 1, 2013, and signed by the Detroit Tigers later in the month.

Miller was added to the Tigers 40-man roster on November 20, 2013. Miller started the 2014 season with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, where he allowed nine runs on 30 hits over 44 2⁄3 innings, with 12 walks and 39 strikeouts.
The Tigers promoted Miller and he made his major league debut on April 18, 2014.
He was designated for assignment by the Tigers on August 30, 2014, to make room for Kyle Ryan on the 40-man roster. In eight appearances with the Detroit Tigers, Miller allowed seven runs on 14 hits over 121⁄3 innings. Colorado Rockies
