Becoming a priest, he called himself Jikyu. Hige-no-Ikyu, a character figuring in the Kabuki play, Sukeroku, was modelled after him.When Hojo- Awanokami, a Shogunate magistrate, issued a decree against kyokaku, he was exiled to Oki Island (Shimane Prefecture). After 30 years in exile, he came back to Edo. He was still in vigorous health although he was over 80 years old.
