Juzo I Nakamura

Background

Juzo I was born in 1694.

Career

In 1728 first appeared on the Edo stage at Moritaza theater. First played heroic roles and then villains' parts. Changed his family name to Na­kamura in 1729. Well versed in martial arts and a master of realism, he restored the name of the Nakamura family to pop­ularity and was a leading player until death. Changed his first name to Kichiemon in 1759.
