Kageaki Kawamura first came to the notice of his superiors for his bravery at Kagoshima Bay when it was attacked by an English man-of-war (1863), and again during the Boshin-no-eki (1868). After this his career was: Captain in Sei-nan-noeki (1877), Chief of Staff at Kumamoto Garrison, Major-General (1891), Brigade Commander during Sino-Japanese War and created Baron (1895), Lt. General and 1st Divisional Commander (1897), 10th Divisional Commander during Russo-Japanese War (1904), Commander of Oryokko (Yalu Army) during the battle at Manchuria and created General (1905), Military Councilor, Governor of Tokyo Garrison and created Viscount (1914).
